A FISH STORY TO END ALL FISH STORIES
"Although after hearing and reading about what must have been several thousand fish stories, several of which that I had already designated as easily my number one, all-time favourite, this one tops them all.  No adjective to describe this story could be considered more incredulous, or ridiculous.  However, swearing on a stack of bibles, I swear that the experience is absolutely true and actually happened as reported here.

JUST A LITTLE BUMP IN THE NIGHT……YEAH, RIGHT!
"2:45 Saturday afternoon, perched on a rock beneath the cascading waterfall and playing a forty-two inch long pike to a standstill on his light trout tackle, Gord tested Murphy’s Law, commenting, “God, I hope they stay out of trouble and keep an eye on the time, Lee. If we have to make the trip back to camp in the dark it would be pretty scary, to say the least.” -

"I had seen fish unlike I have never seen before.  Big Chinook Salmon... browns and rainbows.  It was really like a dream.  The ultimate fishing dream.  In a way I wish I had been able to take advantage of practicing casting with the club at Milliken Pond during the summer to hone my skills so that I was not so distracted by the beauty of the Ganaraska River and the size of the monstrous fish that kept swimming by during this lesson.  But I was distracted.  Who wouldn’t be?" - Open Story

"A couple of new cedar trees have slid down the undercut bank and fallen across the river providing new shelter for trout.  We could see at least 20 good fish holding in this pool.  I hooked into the first fish after about 10-15 casts." - Open Story

"We proceeded to go up river casting the pools in the usual areas for trout bur had very little luck. Actually after the hole just past the swimming hole we did not see any pools of fish. I caught an 18" one that came out from a log and then a little further up I caught a 24" 4.5 lb one." - Open Story

"Gord Deval's journey was the kind of trip that most anglers do not come back from. On a late February morning, the 74-year-old president of the Scarborough Fly & Bait Casting Association was making final preparations for a day of ice fishing when he was struck with a sharp pain in his abdomen.  Gord had hoped the pain would subside and he'd resume preparing for his trip to a frozen lake in Haliburton with fishing buddy Jim Lloyd." -  Open Story

Gord's  popular monthly bulletin, "The Reel Thing", eagerly anticipated and read by trout fisherman around the world includes valuable information for everyone.

We conduct the annual Scarborough Open Fly & Bait Casting Championships and compete in regional, Canadian, North America, International and World Championships, with our members having won over a thousand awards in the twelve years since our club's inception.

We have well-known authors (angling subjects and otherwise) in the club including Governor General's and Stephen Leacock award winning writer, Paul Quarrington (see 'Fishing With My Old Guy') and have done numerous television shoots for T.S.N., C.T.V., C.B.C., and others. A number of former club members have done so well in the club that they have used their newly-acquired expertise to change careers, going into business for themselves, i.e. Fly Tying, Rod Building, Bass Pros, D.N.R. affiliation, etc.
